Simi Valley Police Detectives arrest two Los Angeles County men for vehicle burglary and theft. -CORRECTION-

Since February 2014, Simi Valley Police Detectives have been investigating a group of individuals suspected of committing catalytic converter thefts in various Park 'n Ride lots in the city. While investigating the group, it was determined that the suspects were possibly committing similar crimes in the cities of Moorpark, Camarillo, Porter Ranch, Morgan Hill, and Gilroy. The individuals were primarily targeting Honda and Toyota vehicles.

On 4/22/14, the Simi Valley Police Department’s Detective Unit conducted a surveillance of the suspects. Jose Gonzalez, 20, of San Fernando and Javier Montiel, 20, of Pacoima were arrested in Los Angeles County and later booked at the East Valley Jail for one count of 487(a) PC/Grand Theft and one count of 459 PC/Vehicle Burglary each. Their arrests stemmed from their involvement in the theft of a catalytic converter and other property from a vehicle that was parked in the Park 'n Ride lot on Tapo Canyon Rd. at the 118 freeway in early March, 2014. It is believed additional suspects were also involved in the crime series and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information on thefts of catalytic converters or other property from vehicles is asked to call Simi Valley Police Detective Jeff Quartararo at (805) 583-6956.

Residents are reminded to properly secure their vehicles and to not leave valuable items inside that may be susceptible to theft.
