GTPD Community Advisory:  "Lockout" Lifted at Chews Elementary School: 4-22-2014

At 8:47 AM the Chews Elementary School located at 600 Somerdale Road in Gloucester Township was placed in a security “LOCKOUT” (procedure that secures the building perimeter from an external threat, while normal school activities occur inside the school), after receiving reports of a teenager target shooting in a nearby backyard with a rifle.  Gloucester Township Police Officers and school officials quickly responded and secured the school and began investigating. 

A high school age juvenile who had been shooting a BB gun in his adjacent backyard was located.   After approximately 25 minutes the LOCKOUT was lifted normal school activities resumed.  It was determined that the school children were not in danger.  The investigation is continuing.
