Pomona Police Officers Arrest Metal Theft Suspect
On 4-19-14, The Pomona Police Department received a call for service regarding a subject stealing drain covers at Ganesha Park. Officers met with the reporting party who provided the suspect's description and the license plate number of the suspect's vehicle.
Officers responded to the Ganesha Park amphitheater and found three drain covers missing from the park grounds. The stolen drain covers are 24” X 24” and weigh between 40 to 50 pounds. The covers are valued at $400 each. The holes left by the stolen drain covers posed a danger to residents using the park.
Officers continued their investigation and made contact with Villa. Villa admitted to stealing the drain covers to pay for a trip to Victorville to attend a BBQ. Villa received approximately $30.00 at a local recycling center for the stolen drain covers.
Officers responded to the recycler and recovered two of the three stolen drain covers. There is no indication of wrong doing on the part of the recycler.
On 04/21/2014, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed Grand Theft charges against Villa. Villa remains in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff, pending court arraignment.
