Sheriff George Ballard and Officer Jennifer Payne obtain School Resource Officer certification.

Long gone are the days of "Officer Friendly" showing up at the schools on
occasion to pass out stickers and coloring books. Gibson County Deputies are in
the South Gibson schools daily dealing with all types of incidents. From
bullying, truancy issues, or more serious criminal actions the Gibson County
Sheriff's School Resource Officers deal with all types of situations. Because
of the wide variety of situations that officers deal within the schools Sheriff
George Ballard decided to send willing officers to specialized training for
School Resource Officers. Recently Sheriff Ballard and Special
Deputy/Corrections Officer Jennifer Payne attend the National Association of
School Resource Officer's (Nasro) School Resource Officer course. This 40 hour
class was held April 14-18th in Sullivan, Indiana and was lead by Nasro
Instructor Ed Boza. The Nasro course covered several topics that help officers
in the schools promote safer schools and safer kids. The Gibson County
Sheriff's Office currently has over twenty Nasro certified School Resource
Officers.
