Advisory

Arlington detectives investigating fatal shooting

Shortly before midnight on Thursday, April 17, 2014, officers responded to a report of shots fired at Marti Van Ravenswaay Park located in the 4600 block of Bowman Springs Road. When officers arrived on-scene, there was a group of people in the park along with two men with apparent gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to the Medical Center of Arlington for their injuries. One was pronounced deceased at the hospital while the other victim was treated for a gunshot wound and is expected to survive.

After talking to several witnesses, investigators believe there was a previous altercation between two groups earlier in the evening that occurred in a different city which caused the suspect to confront them at the park. It is believed that the victims and the suspect agreed to meet at the park. The suspect fired a gun on the group striking the two men. The suspect’s vehicle is described as a dark-colored 4-door passenger vehicle. This is an ongoing investigation and detectives are speaking with witnesses and trying to identify the suspect. According to preliminary information gathered, this incident does not appear to have been a random act.

The name of the deceased man will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner once he has been positively identified and next of kin has been notified.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Arlington Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 817 459-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
