NCPD Officers save woman from burning residence last night.

On April 17, 2014, at about 10:33pm, NCPD officers responded to a structure fire in the 1900 block of ā€˜Iā€™ Avenue. Officers located the fire in the rear detached studio of a residence. Officers located a 55 year old female still trapped inside the burning studio. Officers were able to force the front door open and remove the woman to safety. Officers used fire extinguishers to fight the fire until the National City Fire Department arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the fire completely. The woman was transported to a local hospital for minor burns on her hands and smoke inhalation. No officers were injured during this incident.

The NCFD Fire Investigator on scene determined there were no signs of foul play. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have originated from a burning candle.

The Fire Investigator stated that if officers had not removed the woman from the burning building as quickly as they did...the outcome would have been tragically different.

The National City Police Department commends all of the officers and firefighters on scene with an extremely grateful "job well done!!"
