Quality Policing, Strong Investigations and Community Involvement Reduce Violent Crime

On Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 5:00 AM, the Oakland Police Department’s Gang Unit partnered with the Department’s Tactical Operations Team to execute a search warrant at a residence located in the 2600 block of 25th Avenue.

The warrant was obtained in response to the Gang Unit’s investigation of some of the City’s most violent offenders. A 20 year old, male, Oakland resident was arrested for weapons related offenses.

The search resulted in the recovery of:

- Two illegally possessed firearms

- Illegally possessed ammunition



Oakland Police Officers continue to remove dangerous weapons and violent offenders from our communities. The Department’s Gang Unit focuses on making positive impacts through strong investigations and quality policing. The arrest and recoveries are prime example of our continued focus on addressing the possession of dangerous weapons and violent crime.

On April 15, 2014, at 5:15 PM, Oakland Police Officers responded to the area of the 800 block of Alice Street to investigate the report of a strong arm robbery with multiple suspects still in the area. The victim and witnesses were able to provide officers with descriptions of the suspects.

Patrol officers stopped four individuals in the area whom matched the description of the robbery suspects. One male adult and three male juveniles were arrested for the robbery. Loss items from the victim were recovered. The arrests and recovery of loss items are prime example of the dedication and commitment made to addressing crime. On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 9:00 PM, Oakland Police Officers attempted to arrest a residential burglary suspect when he fled and carjacked a motorist in the area of the 2100 block of Fruitvale Avenue. Officers were able to quickly stop the vehicle, arrest the suspect, and rescue the driver.

The suspect, a 23 year old Oakland man was arrested for residential burglary, carjacking and kidnapping. The driver of the car was not injured. Oakland Police Officers remain focused on keeping our communities safe through diligent investigations and effective community policing.
