Valencia, Zone 5, Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information. Snapshot for 04/07/2014 through 04/13/2014.

During the past week, the criminal incidents reported in Valencia were arson, vehicle burglaries, theft from unlocked vehicles, grand thefts and numerous shoplifting from various businesses.

An arson occurred on the 23500 block of Valencia Blvd, in the Santa Clara River Wash between the hours of 5:15 pm and 5:30 pm. Miscellaneous clothing and ¼ acre of bushes was caught on fire. The suspect, a male white adult from the Valencia area, was arrested shortly after. He was in possession of a lighter and admitted to being in the area during the fire. The investigation is currently being handed by the Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosive Detail.

Two vehicle burglaries occurred in the 24600 block of Towncenter Drive and the 23800 block of Mcbean Parkway between the hours of 10:00 pm and 8:00 am. Victims reported the rear passenger windows had been shattered with an unknown object. The victim’s vehicles were parked in a parking structure of an apartment complex and business parking lot. Items stolen were a lap top computers which were left on the rear passenger seat of each vehicle. No suspects or witnesses were located regarding this incident.

There were two grand thefts which occurred at the 26300 block of Rockwell Canyon between the hours of 7:00 am and 8:30 am. One victim left a book bag containing a wallet and an IPod touch in the bed of his truck unsecured. The other victim left a lap top computer in a desk drawer, unlocked, in a classroom. A third grand theft also occurred on the 24400 block of Magic Mountain Parkway at 11:50 am. The victim left his bicycle locked on a bike rack in front of the location. When he returned, the lock had been cut from the bike rack and the bicycle was gone.

Please use caution and be cognizant of your surroundings when securing your bicycles. Keep the serial number of your bicycle on file in the event that it is stolen to aid its recovery.

Avoid becoming a victim! Do not leave items visible in your vehicle. Take all personal belongings with you when you exit your vehicle or secure items in locked trunks. Do not leave items underneath vehicle seats or cover them with clothing apparel or blankets. Thieves know this technique. Remember to roll up all windows and lock doors before walking away from your vehicle.
