Two People Transported to Hospital after Miami County Crash
Miami County – This afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on U.S. 24 at State Road 19, in which two people were injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Chuck Meyer revealed that Rachael Pegg, 23, Mexico, IN, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue northbound on State Road 19 at U.S. 24. The Oldsmobile crossed the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24, but failed to yield at the median crossover. The Oldsmobile pulled into the path of a westbound 2001 Honda Odyssey driven by Nyunt Shwe, 55, Fort Wayne, IN. The Oldsmobile was struck in the passenger side by the front of the Honda.
Rue 40, Htoo, Ft. Wayne, IN, and Tun Aye, 46, Logansport, IN, both passengers in the Honda, were transported by ambulance to Dukes Memorial Hospital. They each had a complaint of pain. Neither Pegg nor Shwe was injured. All participants in the crash were wearing a seat belt which Trooper Meyer believes helped prevent more serious injuries in the crash.
This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
