TRAFFIC ADVISORY: KAPIOLANI BOULEVARD WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Beginning Monday, April 21, the Board of Water Supply’s (BWS) contractor for the water system improvement project on Kapiolani Boulevard will be continuing trench excavation work for the installation of the new waterline. The current work for Phase 1 of this project involves the closure of the two far left Diamond Head-bound lanes and the far left Ewa-bound lane of Kapiolani Boulevard between McCully Street and Paani Street. The contractor plans to keep lane closures to a minimum, however there may be times when the lane closures on both sides of Kapiolani Boulevard occur concurrently. Roadwork will occur Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The contractor is replacing approximately 2,800 feet of 12-inch water main installed in 1938 and approximately 1,000 feet of 8-inch water main installed in 1953. The renewal of the water system will improve fire protection, enhance water service to residents in the area, and reduce the likelihood of water main breaks.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes during construction hours, if possible, to please abide by posted traffic signs, and allow for additional travel time.

The BWS encourages the community to visit www.boardofwatersupply.com for weekly project updates and traffic patterns or call 748-5310 to hear a voice recording of the information. The community may also follow the BWS on Twitter at @BWSHonolulu for daily updates. Questions and comments may be directed to the project construction manager, ESH, Inc., at 799-8744 or the BWS Communications Office at 748-5041.
