Update - Child Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Whiting

Lake County – The Indiana State Police are continuing to investigate the accident that claimed the life of a 12 year old boy yesterday in Whiting. The accident happened around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday on Indianapolis Blvd. just south of 119th St.

State police detectives from the Lowell Post are currently looking at video footage that was obtained from local businesses that may help answer some of the questions surrounding the accident.

Detectives questioned the driver of a semi tractor trailer last night who was suspected as being involved in the hit and run accident. The driver has since been released by the state police and at this point no charges have been filed against the individual. The tractor trailer remains impounded as officers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division complete a detailed inspection of the truck and trailer.

The investigation into tragic incident will continue as detective’s piece together their findings and state police crash investigators re-construct the accident scene.
