NARRATIVE:
On 4/14/14, Ocean Township Police Detectives Michael Melody and Jessie Orbach responded to a residence on Bendermere Avenue in reference to male juvenile who made several terroristic threats during an argument. During an investigation into those threats, detectives discovered a marijuana grow operation in the juveniles bedroom. Detectives recovered a planter with soil used to cultivate marijuana, a large heat source suspended over the planter by a cardboard box, marijuana seeds and five additional light bulbs. Officers also recovered a glass pipe used to smoke marijuana.

A further investigation revealed that the juveniles mother, Shannon Burd, was aware of the grow operation and was an active participant in it. Mrs. Burd was placed under arrest and charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a complaint summons to await a future court hearing.

The juvenile in the matter was taken into protective custody and charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was turned over to a family member. His charges were forwarded to the Monmouth County Superior Court’s Family Division for disposition.
