Miami County Couple Arrested for Child Neglect

Bunker Hill – Recently, a month long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Mike Tarrh resulted in the arrests of Richard Avery Jr., 30, and Heather Avery, 28, both of 467 E. Miami County Road 800 South, Bunker Hill, IN. The couple was arrested after Trooper Luke Bowyer served them each with a Miami Superior Court II arrest warrant alleging two felony counts for neglect of a dependent. They were incarcerated in the Miami County Jail with a bond of $10,000 each.

Detective Tarrh started an investigation after receiving information from the Miami County Division of the Indiana Department of Child Services that the Avery’s two daughters, five and four years of age, were being neglected. The investigation revealed that the Avery’s home was allegedly not a safe place for their children. The home allegedly had a host of issues including unsanitary living conditions, plumbing problems, and being a general fire hazard.

The girls purportedly have some dental and medical issues related to poor hygiene and dirty living conditions. They are currently in the custody of the Miami County Division of the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Detective Tarrh was assisted in this investigation by the Miami County Health Department and the Miami County Building Inspector’s Office.

All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law
