Active Shooter Drill Friday

(Etowah County, Alabama) An active shooter drill will take place Friday morning at the Etowah County Judicial Building.

The exercise will simulate an active shooter inside the building. A full law enforcement response will take place. The drill is a continuation of Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response (ALERRT) training and Run, Hide, Fight training taught by the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.

The judicial building will be closed to the public from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 18, during the simulation.

“Every day, in this country, there is an active shooter situation in a public place,” says Sheriff Todd Entrekin. “Over the past year we have trained law enforcement officers, teachers, those in businesses and the medical field to be prepared in case an event of this type happens in our community.”

Sheriff Entrekin continues, “We hope no one ever has to use this training but, want everyone to be ready for whatever situation arises.”

A designated area will be set aside for the media to view the training exercise. Please email [email protected], by 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, if a representative from your agency will attend.
