Advisory

Lightning Detection System now active in the Borough of Bergenfield

A lightning detection system has been installed and is active within the borough as of April 15, 2014. The sensor locations have been placed at the following locations:

Coopers Pond, Veterans Memorial field, PAL field, Melrose Ave-Little League field, Applegate Park-Hickory Ave, Hoover School, Bergenfield High School, Roy W. Brown Middle School. Other locations are pending. The detection system is highly reliable and provides a strobe light warning as well as an audible (horn) warning. If a warning is activated, all persons should seek immediate shelter to protect themselves and minimize any risk of a lightning strike to themselves or others. More information will be released on this system in the near future. All residents are reminded that the system is active and they should heed any strobe or audible warning as an actual lightning detection
