A look back at the crimes reported in the Newhall area last week.

A residential burglary occurred in the 24600 block of Newhall Avenue between Friday the 11th at 1:00a.m. and Saturday the 12th at 12:00 a.m.  A television was taken during the burglary.

Used cooking oil was taken from a business in the 24200 block of Main Street sometime between Friday the 4th and Monday the 7th

The theft of used cooking oil is occurring nationwide.  The oil is stolen to sell to recyclers, who refine it to be used as bio-diesel fuel.  The thefts almost always occur late at night or very early in the mornings.  The thieves can use all sorts of different types of vehicles and the theft may only take several minutes.  There are legitimate companies who contract with local businesses, but they are clearly marked and conduct business during normal working hours.  If you see suspicious activity at local businesses which you believe may be the theft of used cooking oil please call the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station at, (661)255-1121 and report it.

A domestic violence incident occurred Friday the 11th at 8:15 a.m. at the victim’s residence in the 25000 block of De Wolfe Road.  The 37 year old male suspect fled the location on foot and is currently being sought by the Sheriff’s Department.

Remember to lock your doors and windows, don’t leave valuables in plain view, be aware of your surroundings, and report suspicious behavior.
