National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week: April 13-19, 2014
The men and women of the Santa Barbara City Police and Fire Departments would like to honor the 9-1-1 dispatchers who serve our community. Many of our citizens have experienced firsthand the benefit of having someone answer their call for help; a professionally trained, competent, and compassionate 9-1-1 dispatcher who will set the appropriate emergency response into motion while offering reassurance and guidance until help arrives.
More than 500,000 safety dispatchers throughout the country are working 24/7 to answer 9-1-1 calls and dispatch the appropriate resources. Public safety telecommunicators are the driving force behind our nation's emergency rescue services. They are the men and women who dispatch our police forces, our firefighters, and our ambulances. Although rarely appreciated because they are not physically at the scene of the emergencies, these public safety personnel provide the vital link between our citizens and the public safety responders ready to offer aid and are more than deserving of our praise and admiration this one week each year.
