Dipatch Appreciation

San Mateo County held their annual Dispatch Recognition Luncheon today to show their appreciation for all that dispatchers do as well as recognize the extraordinary efforts that are put forth on a daily basis by those taking calls at our local law enforcement agencies.
Everyone is aware of the officer on the street but often it is the dispatchers that are overlooked. They are the calming voice on the phone speaking to callers that are often anxious or agitated. They are expected to determine important details that need to be conveyed to officers during what can sometimes be confusing situations. They are the ears that hear the cries, the words of anger and frustration, and the stress that can be exhibited during a call; and through it all, they remain calm and supportive. They are essential to the officers on the street.
April 14th – 20th is National Public Safety Communications Week. The week is meant to distinguish and thank those that serve as 9-1-1 call takers and dispatchers across the country. The Menlo Park Police Department would like to thank our own dispatchers as well as those that work for other agencies across San Mateo County, across the state, and across the country.
