Sheriff’s Office would like to cordially invite the public to the John R. Officer Memorial
Ceremony on April 13, 2014. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Sand Hill
Cemetery located approximately 4 miles west of Princeton on State Road 64.
Local Emergency service personnel will come together to recognize the ultimate sacrifice that
John Officer made on April 13, 1934, while serving as a Patrolman with the Chicago Police
Department. Patrolman Officer grew up in Princeton, but later moved to Chicago where he
became one of the few minority officers of the Chicago Police Department at that time. On that
fateful day while on routine patrol Patrolman Officer walked into a shoe store where an armed
robbery was in progress. Patrolman Officer was fatally shot that day and died of the wounds
inflicted by the three armed suspects. Please feel free to join us as we recognize Patrolman John
Officer for the ultimate sacrifice he made that day in history.
