Redwood City, Calif. -- The Redwood City Police Department has implemented a multi-dimensional city-wide approach to traffic collision management that will utilize a combination of traditional and technical data-driven enforcement strategies. This reconstituted effort will be more purposeful in identifying areas of concern and directional in the resolution to identified problems.

Redwood City Police Chief JR Gamez states, "Our department remains committed in its efforts to continually monitor unsafe driving patterns through the use of existing and emerging enforcement technologies." The focus of the program is to change driver behavior and ultimately reduce the number of collisions on City streets.

A key component of the strategy is a program that correlates collected information from traffic collision reports, citations, and DUI arrests to provide the basis for data-driven analysis and effective resource deployment. The analysis program helps to identify problem areas by the collective frequency of activity. In addition to frequency, the program provides historical data imperative for pattern analysis on changes in the area that may be contributing to an increase or decrease in intersection collisions.

Based on the data collected, the Department has identified four key intersections that have seen a rise in collisions. The key intersections will be analyzed monthly and new intersections added depending on the data obtained. As part of its ongoing effort to promote safety on Redwood City streets, the Department will substantially increase its enforcement efforts at the following four key intersections for the next several weeks:

*Whipple Avenue/Veterans Boulevard
*Woodside Road/Broadway
*El Camino Real/Whipple Avenue
*El Camino Real/Jefferson Avenue

The Police Department will also focus on specific traffic-related concerns offered by the community, a process now made simple with the implementation of the myRWC web application. The public can now register a traffic complaint through this portal and observe the progress of that complaint on their smart phone.
