Advisory

Police, fire, and school faculty collaborate to search school after a man with a gun was reported on campus.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at approximately 3:14 P.M., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department received a 911 call from Day Creek Intermediate School in Rancho Cucamonga reporting there was a man with a gun on campus. School faculty immediately placed the school on lockdown as they waited for deputies to arrive to search the campus.

Members from the police department and Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department in a collaborative effort cleared the school in a quick, efficient, and systematic manner to ensure the safety of the students and faculty of Day Creek Intermediate. After ensuring there were no weapons on campus and no suspect found, students were allowed to exit their classrooms and meet up with parents.

The school district was grateful for the prompt response of all first responders. Law enforcement praised the efforts of the teachers and staff at Day Creek Intermediate for their quick response. Students were also commended for complying with directions of deputies, fire, and teachers.

Active shooter training between the Rancho Cucamonga Police Department and the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department has been an essential part of the relationship between the two agencies. Their continuous training was instrumental to the success of maintaining school safety.
