Peru Man Arrested for Theft and Fraud

Peru – This morning, a nine month long criminal investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Brent Ingram resulted in the arrest of Donald Coblentz, 36, Bunker Hill, IN. Detective Ingram arrested Coblentz at a Peru, IN, home where he was served a Miami Superior Court II arrest warrant. The warrant alleged two class C felony charges of fraud and two counts of class D felony theft. Coblentz was incarcerated in the Miami County Jail with a surety bond of $22,000.

Detective Ingram started his investigation after receiving information that Coblentz had allegedly made unauthorized ATM withdrawals and wrote illicit checks utilizing the account of his roommate. The investigation revealed that Coblentz had purportedly obtained his roommate’s debit card and personal checks. From June 2013 until July 2013, Coblentz purportedly used the items to make over a $1,000 in unauthorized cash withdrawals and purchases. The money and purchases were utilized for Coblentz’s personal gain.

Citizens are reminded to monitor their bank and credit card statements. If a suspicious transaction is found, notify the issuing bank immediately. Obtain a police report if the transaction is believed to be criminal in nature. Citizens should also monitor their credit by obtaining a credit report from the three credit reporting bureaus. They are required to provide one free credit report annually.
