Yolo County Sheriff wants to warn the public of a recent Jury Scam.

Yolo County Sheriff Ed Prieto wants to inform the public of a recent scam. Several California Sheriff’s Offices have reported a scam whereby residents have received phone calls from a person claiming to be a sheriff’s office employee who demands payment, via a Green Dot pre-paid credit card transaction, to clear up an outstanding warrant.

Callers are being told they did not show up for required jury duty and they have to pay a fine to clear up a warrant that has been issued. The calls also originate from a local area code.

These calls are fraudulent and have no connection to the sheriff’s offices or the courts located in their counties. Though this scam has not yet been reported in Yolo County, Sheriff Prieto wants to alert the public to be prepared so they don’t become a victim.

Anyone who receives a phone call from someone demanding payment for an outstanding warrant should immediately report the situation to the law enforcement agency in their jurisdiction.
