On March 11, 2014, a manager from Crop Production Services of Hanford contacted the Corcoran Police Department regarding unauthorized purchases of diesel fuel from the company's accounts at several fuel stations in Kings County. The subsequent investigation revealed that Terrence Russell, an employee who was provided a vehicle and a company fuel card, paid for diesel fuel using the company fuel card. Russell purchased the fuel and stored it in a tank mounted on the company vehicle. Russell would then sell the fuel at a reduced rate and would keep the proceeds. The purchases were discovered after large purchases of fuel were noticed on Russell's fuel card when he was not working.

Russell was arrested and was booked into the Kings County Jail and held on $260.000 bail.
