Armstrong Man Arrested Following Police Chase

Estherville, IA - On Sunday April 6, 2014 at approximately 1:54 A.M., Estherville Police stopped a vehicle for suspicion of Operating While Intoxicated just South of the intersection of Iowa Highway 9 and Emmet County Road N32. The driver of the vehicle stopped at that location and was questioned by officers. The officers returned to the patrol vehicle to check the suspect’s driver license and conduct a warrant check on him. While the officers were gathering the information, the suspect sped away in his vehicle.

The suspect vehicle traveled Southbound on N32 to the 180th Street, where the driver then turned east. The vehicle went to 430th Avenue, turned back to the North and continued back to Highway 9 where the driver turned back to the east on Highway 9. The suspect drove at speeds in excess of 100 Miles per Hour and violated several other traffic laws during the chase. The suspect turned Northbound onto 500th Avenue where he rammed a police vehicle and was then forced into the ditch. The suspect was apprehended without further incident. There were no injuries reported to the officers or the suspect.

The suspect identified was identified as Michael S. Daniels, age 39 of Armstrong. Daniels was charged with Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense a Class D Felony; Eluding a Law Enforcement Officer while in Violation of O.W.I., a Class D Felony; Assault on a Police Officer, Class D Felony; and the following traffic violations; Reckless Driving, Excessive Speed, Driving on Wrong Side of a Two-Way Highway, Stop Sign, and Driving While License Suspended.
Daniels was transported to the Emmet County Jail on the charges and released later that morning by a magistrate on $5,000 Unsecured Bond.

The Estherville Police Department was assisted by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Department and Armstrong Police Department.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
