Pinwheel display to raise awareness about child abuse and prevention

For the second consecutive year, the Arlington Police Department is participating in events to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, including a pinwheel display at the North Police Station to increase awareness. Officers and volunteers placed 423 pinwheels in the front lawn of the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Building (620 W. Division Street). Each pinwheel represents a case of physical or sexual abuse against a child that was reported in Arlington last year. The display of blue pinwheels is a stark reminder of our youngest and most helpless victims.

The Arlington Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit works closely with the Alliance For Children, a Tarrant County non-profit organization involved directly in the protection from child abuse through coordinated investigations with law enforcement, Child Protective Services, Cook Children’s Medical Center, and the District Attorney’s Office. The Alliance For Children hosts the “Pinwheel Project” each year as part of their commitment to bring awareness to the issue of child abuse and the importance of prevention. Pinwheel displays are being placed at three locations in Tarrant County – Arlington Police Department, Texas Christian University and Tarrant County College Northeast Campus.
