Recent Reminders to Be Prepared

The earthquakes around the Pacific Rim, should serve as a reminder to be prepared instead of give you a reason to be fearful. Last week the city of Los Angeles was rattled by a 5.1 earthquake, while this past Tuesday the country of Chile in South America experienced an 8.2 earthquake followed by a 7.6 aftershock less than a day later. And finally on Wednesday the country of Panama was shaken by a 5.8 earthquake. These should be good reminders of some steps you can take to prepare yourself and your families.
Step 1 – Be Informed
Step 2 – Make a Plan
Step 3 – Build a Kit
Step 4 – Get Involved

Tonight 30 Sunnyvale residents will become a part of the 37th SNAP (Sunnyvale Neighbors Actively Prepared) class. SNAP is held one evening a week for seven weeks. It is a series of practical skill-building exercises that cover fire safety and suppression, conducting hazard surveys and light search/rescue operations. SNAP is presented three times a year.
Another way to get involved is by signing up for the Personal Emergency Preparedness (PEP) class. This two hour class is a perfect way to kick-start your preparedness activities.
To sign up for any of the classes that the Office of Emergency Services hosts, or to get more preparedness information, visit OES.inSunnyvale.com and check out the links to the Sunnyvale Neighbors Actively Prepared and the Personal Emergency Preparedness pages.
