APD Seizes a Large Quantity of Illegal Drugs

On Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the Anchorage Police Department Special Assignment Unit (SAU) successfully intercepted a package at a local motel containing a high volume of illegal drugs intended for motel guests.

Motel personnel had contacted APD after they received a suspicious package sent to a guest. After the unit arrived at the motel, APD K-9 “Doc” alerted on a package, prompting officers to obtain a search warrant that led to the discovery of a kilogram of cocaine. The intended recipients of the package were Anchorage residents, identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel FORD and 20-year old Leaha HAZZA. Both were arrested and charged with one count each of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance (MICS) in the third and fourth degrees.

The wholesale value of the drugs is estimated between $36,000 and $45,000, with the street value estimated at approximately $100,000.
