Press Release

The following individual was charged today in Madison County Circuit Court, with a felony charge of UNLAWFUL POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE (COCAINE), according to Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz. The individual was identified as:

DEREION M. HILL
MALE
AGE: 20
108 E. ELM STREET
ALTON, ILLINOIS

On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at approximately 8:22 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Church of Nazarene, 1800 W. Delmar Avenue, Godfrey, Illinois, in reference to a vehicle being stuck on the property. The responding deputy met with the owner of the vehicle, Dereion M. Hill, and a passenger of the vehicle. Hill informed the deputy that he attempted to turn around in the church parking lot, but ended up getting stuck in the grass.
While on the scene the deputy observed Hill make a suspicious movement into the car and then stomp on something next to him. The deputy inspected the item Hill was stomping on and discovered it was a bag containing several individual packages of crack cocaine. The deputy seized the cocaine and ultimately took Hill and the passenger of Hill’s vehicle into custody. Hill was in possession of a glass drug pipe at the time of his arrest.
A search of vehicle and area around it resulted in the discovery of bags of cannabis and paraphernalia. Two small packages of cannabis were found on the ground near the driver’s side door. An additional bag of cannabis, and a bag containing small plastic bags like those the cocaine was found in, was found inside of the vehicle.
Both subjects were transported to the Madison County Jail where they were held pending a formal review of facts by the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office. The passenger of the vehicle was released without charges.
The felony warrant and information on Hill was signed by the Honorable Judge Neil Schroeder, who set bond on $60,000.00. Hill was also charged with misdemeanor charges of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis.
