Investigation Lands Two Individuals in Jail

Lake County – Indiana State Police Detectives working out of the Toll Road Post in Bristol apprehended two individuals this week after linking one of them to several crimes that occurred at the George Ade Rest Plazas on the Indiana Toll Road. The rest plazas are located at the 21 mile marker in Lake County.

The state police investigation culminated with the arrest of Tamara R. Scott, and Anthony D. Washington, of Gary, Indiana. Scott was apprehended as the result of an investigation that linked her to nearly twenty theft and robbery investigations that occurred at the George Ade Rest Plazas over the past two and a half months.

Scott was identified by detectives as a suspect in multiple investigations in which she would steal the wallets and cell phones of victims while attempting prostitution activity at the rest plazas. Purportedly on several occasions male subjects would accompany her, brandishing a firearm and taking the items through the threat of force.

Charges were successfully filed in Lake County after Scott was identified as using the stolen credit card of a victim in Lake Station, Indiana.

Scott was located at the Majestic Star Casino Hotel in Gary by state police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department. During the execution of the arrest warrant for Scott a male subject leapt from the 2nd story window of the hotel room and fled on foot. Scott was found hiding in a closest and was placed under arrest for the warrant. The warrant for Scott charges her with two felony counts of forgery, three counts of fraud, two counts of theft, and two counts of receiving stolen property.

Items located in the hotel room led police to the home of Anthony Washington, the male subject that fled from the room earlier. Police arrived at 249 Fillmore St., Gary, Indiana in preparation to serve the warrant on Washington when he was spotted walking out of his residence. He was apprehended by police and arrested for resisting arrest and possession of cocaine. Washington was taken to the Lake County Jail and is being held without bail pending charges.

Indiana State Police Detective First Sergeant Jeffrey Matson commented that he anticipates filing numerous other charges against Scott and Washington as the investigations involving them are completed.

*All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
