Henderson Woman Indicted and Surrenders on Three Counts of Identity Theft for Making Fraudulent Purchases with Lost Bank Card in January

A Henderson woman was indicted and has surrendered for making fraudulent purchases at different locations with a lost bank card in January.

On Monday, Jackson police presented facts of the case to the Madison County Grand Jury. Indictments were returned charging Cristy Swope, 45, of Henderson, with three counts of identity theft.

Swope, who had not been previously charged, was notified of the indictments and surrendered at the Madison County Criminal Justice Complex on Wednesday at 2 p.m. She was booked and released from the Madison County Jail around 3 p.m. after posting a $1,000 bond.

Swope is scheduled to be formally arraigned at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7 in Madison County Circuit Court, Division III.

On the afternoon of Jan. 11, a 67-year-old Jackson woman reported to police that she had lost her bank card in Steinmart, at 175 Stonebrook Place. The woman later discovered that someone had made unauthorized transactions with the card at various places in Jackson totaling $138.86.

Investigators learned that on Jan. 11 around 12:20 p.m., Swope made a purchase with the lost card at Steinmart for $79.74. Around 12:40 p.m., Swope used the card and made a purchase of $37.28 at Madison South Liquor and Wine, at 1725 South Highland Ave. About 10 minutes later, Swope made a purchase with the card for $21.84 at Kanpai Japanese Restaurant, at 2166 South Highland Ave.
