Advisory

Lightning strike in Sausalito damaged homes and caused power outages.

The Sausalito Police Department and the Southern Marin Fire Protection District received a call at 12:30 today from residents in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue in Sausalito, stating that lightning had struck their home.

Police and Fire responded and found that the lightning had struck a large redwood tree directly behind the neighboring residence. Both homes sustained damage. There were no injuries.

Power is off to over 1,000 P,G & E customers in the area. It is not known when power will be fully restored. The Sausalito Police Department urges motorists to drive with extreme caution as there are some reports of traffic signals being out of service due to the power outages. The SPD reminds drivers that if traffic signals are not working, then treat the intersection as an all-way stop before proceeding.
