Weekly Rosemead Blvd Construction Advisory

NOTE: New items are asterisked.

REPORTING PERIOD:
Week of March 31, 2014

CONSTRUCTION AREA:
Rosemead Boulevard within Temple City limits—i.e., from Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) underpass on the south to Callita Street on the north.

*CONSTRUCTION HOURS:
Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

NOTE: There is no construction on rainy days. To keep with the latest project updates, visit www.rosemeadblvd.com. Work may occasionally occur on weekends, and/or during holidays.

*PLANNED ACTIVITIES:
Remaining activities are focused on cleanup, miscellaneous electrical connection work, and installation of incoming sidewalk furnishings and beautification features (i.e., bike racks, public art, etc.). In coming weeks, crews will paint the UPRR bridge, install plant covering along slopes at the southern end of the project, and add decorative camellia designs along sidewalks.

NOTE: New traffic signals at Garibaldi Avenue and Temple City Plaza Shopping Center are undergoing testing, but are expected to begin operation by April 9.

ANTICIPATED IMPACTS:
*Bicycle & Pedestrian Access: Users are advised that Rosemead Boulevard remains a construction zone with intermittent activities. Please proceed cautiously. Sidewalks may occasionally be restricted/closed for work. Pedestrians and cyclists are cautioned not to enter barricaded work areas. Obey all worksite signage. Onsite crews are instructed to provide as-needed assistance to pedestrians passing construction areas. Cyclists must ride in the direction of traffic.

*Parking: Parking is available only within marked spaces along Rosemead Boulevard north of Las Tunas Drive. Do not obstruct the bike lane. Parking spots are located next to the bike lanes, in the space between the landscaped medians. Only marked spaces may be used. Those needing permits for overnight parking between 2-5 a.m. should call the Public Safety and Services Division at (626) 285-2171, ext. 2332.

*Trash Pick-Up: Do not set trashcans in the bike lanes. Residents should place bins beyond the bike lane—either against the curb of the bicycle median, or in striped-off areas. For multifamily complexes, please keep oversized garbage containers within your property for pickup by Athens Services.

Lane Closure: Rosemead Boulevard is now reopened to two traffic lanes in each direction. Remaining work may on occasion require brief lane closures.

Report Debris: To report displaced traffic control devices or disorderly construction conditions for cleanup, call the hotline at (626) 476-7376.

TIPS & REMINDERS:
When traveling through the construction area, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient, proceed with caution, and obey flaggers and the law at all times.

A 30 mph speed limit is in effect on Rosemead Boulevard between UPRR and Callita. Sheriffs are actively enforcing the construction area for speeding and unsafe driving. Per state law, fines for moving violations are doubled within construction zones.

For your safety and that of workers, do not enter or travel in the blockaded construction lane at any time.

Exercise caution, pay attention to posted signage and watch for uneven ground in the construction zone.

When traveling along Rosemead Boulevard, watch for cross traffic and consider yielding to those seeking to merge.

For project-related questions, comments or concerns, speak directly with a City representative by calling the designated hotline at (626) 476-7376. Onsite crews are not responsible for addressing public inquiries, as such may hinder work progress.
