Sexual Assault Arrest

Domonick Alonzo Love, age 18, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for the following crimes perpetrated against a 15-year old female victim:

  • Rape by force, violence, duress, menace, or fear (felony)
  • Rape by intoxication preventing the victim from resisting (felony)
  • Unlawful intercourse with a minor less than 3 years younger than the perpetrator (misdemeanor)

On March 20, 2014 officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Emergency Room to investigate a rape.  Investigation revealed that on the night of March 19, 2014 the victim, a 15-year old girl from Santa Barbara, met with acquaintances from the Downtown Santa Barbara homeless community.  She then accompanied one of those subjects, whom she knew by the moniker “Slim,” to a party on Santa Barbara’s Westside.  The victim became intoxicated at the party and was subsequently raped by her companion.

Based on the descriptions provided of the suspect’s appearance and tattoos, and his moniker, several Santa Barbara Police Officers immediately recognized the suspect as Love.  Love has had numerous contacts with police in Santa Barbara’s Downtown corridor since November 2013.  Coincidentally, Love was interviewed by KEYT Senior Reporter John Palminteri on March 19, 2014 for a news story entitled, “Street Transients React to Santa Barbara Police Crackdown.”  During the piece that aired Love was depicted with the moniker “Slim” captioned at the bottom of the television screen.

On March 21, 2014 SBPD Crimes Against Persons Detective Brian Larson obtained a $100,000.00 arrest warrant for Love for the aforementioned crimes.  Officers and detectives then canvassed the Downtown corridor and area campsites in an effort to locate Love, however were unsuccessful.  On March 24, 2014 at 4:47 p.m., Love was contacted by a Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Deputy investigating a disturbance on 900 N. Refugio Road in Santa Ynez.  The deputy immediately recognized Love as a wanted subject from a law enforcement bulletin and arrested him.

Love was transported to the Santa Barbara Police Department where he was interviewed and evidence was collected.  He was then booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned warrant.
