APD Introduces New Public Communication Service Called NIXLE!

Subject: APD Introduces New Public Communication Service Called NIXLE

Effective immediately, the Anchorage Police Department is pleased to announce the launch a new communications service that allows the department to send important, valuable public safety related information directly to residents through text messaging and email.

The Nixle Community Information Service allows APD to create and publish messages to be delivered to residents who have subscribed to the service instantly, via cell phone, text message, and/or email. Notifications can also be accessed online at Nixle’s web site:

Messages may include alerts, crisis communications, traffic advisories, and notifications of police activity, as well as other relevant safety and community event information.

“Over the last year, we have worked hard to expand and improve our public communications, and we think Nixle will prove an invaluable tool as we continue to explore innovative ways to connect with the Anchorage community and get our information out there,” said APD Police Chief Mark Mew. “We are excited to add Nixle to our public communications tool-box.”

The service is secure, reliable and easy to use. It joins the department’s other social media platforms of Twitter and Facebook, with the added benefit of enhanced security.

Residents of Anchorage can immediately begin receiving pertinent public safety information via text message, email, and web by registering at .
