ARRESTED: The suspect in today's manhunt on Simmonsville Rd has been apprehended. Travel may be safely resumed in the area.
The suspect being sought by the US Marshal's Service, with the assistance of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and the Bluffton Police Department, has been apprehended.
Law enforcement attempted to make contact with 28-year old James Samuel Harris, wanted out of Chatham County on murder charges, at approximately 12:15 pm in the area of 238 Simmonsville Rd. The suspect fled the area on foot.
A perimeter was established in the area of Simmonsville Rd, extending to Buck Island Rd and Bluffton Parkway as a K9 search was initiated. Local schools and daycares were placed on lockdown for the duration of the search.
Harris was taken into custody just before 2:30 pm this afternoon. All schools/daycares have been released from lockdown status at this time, and normal traffic may resume in the area.
Instructions:
Lockdown has been lifted on all schools and daycares in the affected area. Residents and motorists may resume normal activities.
