Marijuana Dealer Arrested, Clients Included Students at SBHS
Jeffrey Nicholas Carpenter, age 28, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and transportation of marijuana after he attempted to sell marijuana to a police officer investigating sales to Santa Barbara High School students.
In recent days SBPD Officer Shawn Hill, assisted by school staff, investigated the sale of marijuana to Santa Barbara High School students. During his investigation he discovered that the drug deals were being arranged via text messages and that the dealer would deliver marijuana to a location near campus. Officer Hill obtained the drug dealer’s cell phone number and on March 23, 2014, via text, ordered $35.00 worth of marijuana to be delivered to the intersection Nopal Street and Figueroa Street, near SBHS. Approximately 30 minutes later, at 12:55 p.m., Carpenter arrived with the marijuana and was arrested. Found in his vehicle were 10 grams of marijuana worth $100.00 contained in a large Mason jar, two additional Mason jars containing marijuana residue, and an electronic scale with marijuana residue on it. Carpenter had $352.00 in cash and was in possession of the cell phone that he used to arrange the drug deal with Officer Hill. The phone contained a history of numerous text messages that were solicitations to buy marijuana and Carpenter’s responses.
When interviewed Carpenter acknowledged conducting approximately 30 to 40 marijuana drug deals a day throughout the area from Carpinteria to Goleta, some of which to SBHS students. Carpenter stated that he usually asks the students to whom he sells marijuana if their grades are good and said that he admonishes them that if they use methamphetamine he will stop selling them marijuana.
Carpenter was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned charges with a bail amount of $20,000.00.
