On March 24, 2014, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Burbank Police Communications Center received several 911 calls regarding several gunshots heard, with a subsequent vehicle crash in the area of Alameda Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard.

Officers arrived a short time later and located a red SUV with major collision damage and multiple bullet holes in the right rear area. The vehicle was abandoned and a crime scene was established.

At 2:10 a.m., the police department was notified by Saint Joseph’s Hospital of a gunshot victim that arrived at the hospital. The victim, Mario Gamboa, M/30, of Sylmar, was being treated for a single gunshot to the back.

Mario Gamboa’s vehicle was struck several times by gunfire, causing him to crash on the access road of Alameda Avenue, east of Flower Street. Mr. Gamboa was picked up at the scene by a friend and dropped off at the hospital a short time later.

During the interview at the hospital, it was discovered Mario Gamboa was a parolee-at-large. Mr. Gamboa was treated and released for a single gunshot to the back and subsequently arrested for his parole violation and booked at the Burbank Jail.

Mario Gamboa has been transferred to the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail and is being held on a misdemeanor warrant and a Department of Corrections Parole “hold”.

Anyone who may have been in the area of Alameda Avenue and Flower Street this morning between 1:20 a.m. and 1:45 a.m., and may have witnessed this incident is asked to call the Burbank Police Department, Investigations Bureau, at 818-238-3210.
