Borough Resident Caught in the Act, Arrested & Charged with Burglary

On March 17, 2014, South River Police Officers arrested and charged Steven J. Nolan of South River with burglary and drug related offenses.

At approximately 11:16 a.m., the South River Police Department received a telephone call from a resident of Continental Court, who stated that when he arrived home, his wife was standing outside and told him there was possibly an intruder inside the residence.

Upon their arrival, Police Officers were directed to the backyard by the resident where a basement window had been broken. The resident explained the doorbell rang but no one was at the door. The resident fled the house a short time later when she heard the basement window break.

While conducting a search of the residence, the suspect, Steven J. Nolan, exited from the master bedroom into the upstairs hallway. Nolan was arrested and subsequently charged with burglary, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to use. Nolan was transported to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in default of $25,000.00 bail.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Nolan are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
