Update on Attempted Child Abduction
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 20, 2014
CONTACT: Public Information Officer, Det. Tony Stewart
Tony Stewart with the Troy Police Department wishes to release the following public safety information, regarding a possible child abduction attempt.
On 03-20-14, the Troy Police Department was contacted by an adult couple, who after seeing the post on our Facebook page stated they believed they were the individuals we were looking for.
Detectives with the Troy Police Department made contact with both the adult occupants of the vehicle. It appears to have been a misunderstanding. The drive of the vehicle was trying to locate a friend's address and used the victim's driveway to turn around, which was on a dead end street. While the car was pulling into the driveway the male juvenile in the backseat was trying to make a joke and opened the back door of the vehicle and offered the victim candy.
At this time it not believed there was any criminal intend and the juvenile was counseled on his behavior.
We want to thank the public for their assistance in trying to locate the suspect vehicle. We also want to remind parents to speak with their children regarding situations like this, and continue to be safety conscience.
