I-465 Traffic Shift & Restrictions Near I-65 on South Side
INDIANAPOLIS – Contractors for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plan restrictions this week on westbound Interstate 465 through the work zone at the south side Operation Indy Commute I-65 interchange improvement project.
On Tuesday and Thursday nights, the two left lanes of westbound I-465 will be restricted between Emerson Avenue and I-65 for work on the Sherman Drive bridge center pier. This work will take place between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. and will be postponed in the event of rain.
On Wednesday night, motorists should expect alternating multi-lane restrictions on westbound I-465 and temporary restrictions on the ramp from northbound I-65 to westbound I-465. The restrictions for painting lane markings are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and are also dependent on favorable weather conditions.
Walsh Construction Company, INDOT’s contractor for the $40 million project, is shifting westbound traffic away from the median to provide workers room for pavement and bridge pier construction. Contractors are also currently constructing auxiliary lanes along I-65 to connect between the I-465 and Southport Road interchange ramps. A new two-lane flyover ramp from westbound I-465 to southbound I-65 is being constructed to replace the existing single-lane loop ramp. Sherman Drive remains closed until approximately Sept. 1 as the bridge over I-465 is reconstructed and lengthened to accommodate widening I-465 below.
