Sergeant Harshman Promoted to Assistant Commander of the Indianapolis State Police Post

Sunday, March 16th, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter promoted Sergeant Dana Harshman to the rank of First Sergeant to serve as assistant commander of the Indiana State Police Indianapolis District. Harshman was selected after competing in a stringent written and oral interview process. The Indianapolis District is comprised of seven counties; Marion, Shelby, Boone, Hamilton, Johnson, Hendricks, and Hancock.

Harshman is a native of Marion County and a 1994 graduate of Perry Meridian High School. She attended Indiana University and graduated with an elementary education degree in 1999.

Harshman began her law enforcement career in 2000 upon graduation from the 60th Indiana State Police Academy. She was assigned to the Indianapolis Post and patrolled Marion County. In 2008, she was promoted to Sergeant to serve as a District Squad leader in Marion County at the Indianapolis District. During the last year she has served as a sergeant with the Executive Protection Detail.

First Sergeant Harshman’s primary responsibility is to perform the District’s administrative duties and to serve as Acting District Commander when designated.

First Sergeant Harshman resides with her husband Brian and two children in Morgan County.
