SANTA BARBARA, CA – March 15, 2014

Richard Douglas Box, age 69, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for violation of a domestic violence restraining order and violation of a court order stemming from pending sexual assault and child molestation criminal cases.  At the time of his arrest Box had been out of custody on $2,000,000.00 bail.

On December 16, 2013 Box had been arrested by SBPD Detective Brian Larson for multiple felonies committed during a sexual assault that occurred at Box’s residence on the 200 block of Las Ondas in the City of Santa Barbara on December 11, 2013.  During a Santa Barbara Superior Court hearing on December 18, 2013 related to that case, a protective order was issued prohibiting Box from being within 500 yards of his residence or the victims in that case.  During a Santa Barbara Superior Court hearing on January 3, 2014 related to a child molestation case from Long Beach, California, a protective order was issued prohibiting Box from being within 500 yards of a location in Long Beach and the victim in that case.

In the following weeks SBPD detectives investigated reports that Box had violated the aforementioned protective orders.  Investigation revealed that on or around January 24 or 25, 2014 Box violated the conditions of the court order pertaining to the protected Long Beach location.  Investigation further revealed that on February 15, 2014 Box violated the conditions of the court order pertaining to the protected Santa Barbara location.  On March 7, 2014 Detective Larson obtained a $1,000,000.00 arrest warrant for Box for the crimes of violation of a domestic violence restraining order and violation of a court order.  At the time Box’s whereabouts were unknown to police.

On March 14, 2014 SBPD Narcotics detectives were in the Santa Barbara Harbor on unrelated business when they observed Box.  At 12:04 p.m. officers and detectives contacted Box while he was with a companion at restaurant there and arrested him.  Box was subsequently booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on the aforementioned warrant.

SANTA BARBARA, CA – December 17, 2013

Richard Douglas Box, age 69, of Santa Barbara, was arrested for multiple offenses stemming from a sexual assault investigation.  There are two female victims in this case.

On December 11, 2013 at 12:54 p.m., officers from the Santa Barbara Police Department responded to a call of a disturbance on the 200 block of Las Ondas.  A sexual assault investigation ensued.  On December 16, 2013 SBPD Crimes Against Persons Detective Brian Larson obtained a $2,000,000.00 arrest warrant for Box for the following crimes:

·         Assault with the intent to commit certain felonies (felony)

·         False imprisonment by force, 2 counts (felony)

·         Rape (felony)

·         Intimidate a witness or victim by force (felony)

·         Assault with a deadly weapon (felony)

·         Peeping with a concealed camera (misdemeanor)

·         Battery (misdemeanor)

·         Violation of a court order (misdemeanor)

At 2:30 p.m. on December 16^th Box surrendered himself to Detective Larson at SBPD.  Box was transported to Santa Barbara County Jail where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.
