Four hour standoff last night on Airway Drive, Moses Lake, ends with arrest.

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (14MAR2014) – One man is in custody after a dramatic four hour standoff with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit and the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team (TRT) last night in north Moses Lake.

While serving an arrest warrant around 9 p.m. Thursday on suspect Sergio Hererra Jiron, 23, at 4815 Airway Drive NE, #58, (Harvest Manor Mobile Home Park), the suspect refused to come out and then barricaded himself inside the home. Presumed armed, a perimeter was established, residential neighbors notified, and the Tactical Response Team (TRT) was brought in.

After negotiations failed, multiple “flash bangs” and tear gas were used, and eventually TRT entered the home around 1 a.m. Friday to find the suspect hiding in the clothes dryer. The suspect did not initially comply with the officers’ instructions, so the suspect was subdued after being shot by a non-lethal rubber bullet. The suspect ended up sustaining a wound to his hand. He was then taken into custody and taken to jail.

When arrested, the suspect was also found to be a felon in unlawful possession of a firearm. The original arrest warrant was for a failure to appear in court on a charge of felony delivery of controlled substance.

“Our GCSO’s newly-formed Gang Unit and TRT coordinated well and did a terrific job in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion,” said Sheriff Tom Jones.
