VICTIM 2: Withheld – Male, Gilroy Police Officer

SUSPECT #1: Garcia, Randy, 49 year old, Gilroy Resident


Details:

On 03/12/2014 at approximately 3:49 pm, Gilroy Police Officers responded to the area of Welburn Avenue and Parish Way for a report of a possible drunk or reckless driver. This driver would later be identified as Randy Garcia, a City of Gilroy resident. Garcia was seen driving onto opposite lanes of traffic by the witness. Garcia noticed he was being followed, made a U-turn and accelerated towards the witness vehicle nearly colliding with her vehicle.

Officers located Garcia’s vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver again accelerated his vehicle at high rate of speed towards the officer’s patrol car. The officer conducted an evasive maneuver to avoid a head-collision with Garcia’s vehicle. Garcia led officers on a short pursuit which was terminated in the interest of public safety due to Garcia’s erratic behavior and driving. Garcia’s vehicle was located abandoned on the 900 Block of Irish Court. Officers located and arrested Garcia at a residence associated to him on the 8100 Block of Parrish.

Garcia was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail where he was booked on assault with a deadly weapon and evading charges.
