Pair charged with having drugs in car at I-40 rest area
Lt. Bryon Crisp of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged 38-year-old George Steven Johnson, of Owl Hollow Road in Marion, and 24-year-old Stephanie Renee Rice, of Westwood Avenue in Swannanoa, with felony possession of methamphetamine.
On Monday, March 3 at 5:20 a.m., Crisp was patrolling the Interstate 40 westbound rest area and noticed a suspicious vehicle. Rice, a passenger in the car, was wanted on a probation violation.
A subsequent search of the automobile, occupied by both suspects, revealed 1 gram of methamphetamine.
