Credit Card Phone Scam

The Green Bay Police Department has received reports of a phone scam taking place in the northeast Wisconsin area.

Numerous individuals have reported receiving automated phone calls from and an unknown individual who states they are with credit security. The recording advises that their credit card number has been flagged by the credit company and their accounts have been temporarily locked-out after being recently compromised. The recording then tells the victims to type their credit card number into the phone key pad to reactivate the credit card. The scam appears to be targeting phone listings from various corporate phone systems as many of the victims appear to be working for many of the same businesses.

The Green Bay Police Department is advising the public to simply hang up the phone if you receive this type of phone call. For added protection you are advised to immediately call the customer service number listed on the back of your credit card. Report the incident to customer service and inquire about your accounts current status.

Never enter your credit information into an unsecured phone line or a received phone call generated from either a live person or automated service. Credit companies have specific policies regarding compromised credit numbers, none of which require customers to enter card numbers to reactivate accounts.
