New Fraud Scheme in Turlock
On February 28, 2014, the Turlock Police Department received a report of a fraud case where an unknown subject called the victim claiming he was with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He told the victim that he was behind on his taxes and needed a set amount of money via a wire transfer to an account the caller had provided to the victim.
During the call, the suspect also informed the victim that if he did not cooperate, members of the Turlock Police Command Staff would be contacting him and/or arresting him.
The Turlock Police Department is issuing this warning to ensure that community members do not fall victim to this. Turlock Police Chief Robert Jackson also wants to be sure our community members know that the Turlock Police Department has nothing to do with collecting money for the IRS.
The Turlock Police Department is an active participant in the Crime Stoppers Program. Callers can leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636 and may be eligible for a cash reward.
