Gibson County Law Enforcement Agencies Plans Checkpoints During March

Princeton, IN - Just as basketball is stirring up a great deal of activity this March, more than 250 Indiana law enforcement agencies are planning to launch action of their own. Beginning Friday, February 28, Gibson County Law Enforcement Agencies will initiate a major enforcement effort to crack down on impaired and dangerous driving. Specifically Gibson County Law Enforcement Agencies plan to stage checkpoints looking for drivers operating under the influence. Sober drivers coming through the checkpoints will only be delayed a couple of minutes.

“We will have a strong and visible police presence aimed at deterring dangerous driving and getting impaired drivers off the street,” said Sgt. Bruce Vanoven. “If you plan to drink alcohol - don’t drive. Designate a sober driver.”

The increased enforcement effort, which lasts through March 23, encompasses St. Patrick’s Day and many March sporting events.

Local Law Enforcement recommends these easy steps for a safe March and St. Patrick’s Day:
• Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin.
• Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home.
• If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.
• If available, use your community’s sober ride program [Insert your Local Sober Ride Specifics Here].
• If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact local police.
• If you know someone who is about to drive while impaired, take the keys and help that person make other arrangements to get to where he or she is going safely.
