Flash Flood Watch Issued For Azusa

The National Weather Service has just issued a Flash Flood Watch for Azusa, at 02/27/2014 at 0834 hours. This is due to the abundance of rainfall and the recently burned areas of Azusa.

This watch is in effect from late tonight through Saturday evening. Periods of possible thunderstorms are expected later tonight as well, carrying on through Saturday evening.

In the event rainfall rates are between 1/2" and 1" in a one hour period, this may cause debris and mud flow in and around burn areas.

Azusa Police Department is advising residents residing on Ridge View Drive in Azusa to evacuate their residences as soon as possible. At this time, evacuations are voluntary.

This decision was made by police department personnel after speaking with representatives with the National Weather Service, as well as other local authorities. As with all evacuations, the safety of our resident's lives is the first priority of the Azusa Police Department.

Evacuation Center

An evacuation center has been established at the Crowther Center at 241 W. Dawson Avenue in Glendora. The phone number to the center is (626) 914-2357.

Law Enforcement Presence

Due to this evacuation order, additional law enforcement personnel will be patrolling the Ridge View Drive neighborhood to prevent criminal activity during the absence of residents.

We Encourage You To Evacuate

Many deaths occur during a landslide when people are sleeping. Due to the timing of this order, coupled with the impending evening anticipated storm, we strongly encourage you to leave your residence.
